The action takes place in 1989 in a military unit in Romania, where the flag is stolen.
It’s a film with authentic characters and with a captivating story made for all film lovers and for everyone who wants to discover a fragment of our country’s history, Romania, a moment of communism and totalitarianism. Help create a historical narrative film about freedom, austerity and the fight against the system presented in a dramatically funny way.
The action takes place in 1989 in an isolated military unit in Romania. The preparations for the ceremony of the military oath begun, an event where the general will also participate. Two days before the celebration new problems arise: the flag is stolen. The administration of the unit starts looking for the culprit among the soldiers but they soon begin to be skeptical of one another as well. Despite the fact that, apparently, there is harmony in the unit and the hierarchy is respected, between the officers, there are many animosities: each of them tries to coax the others or they take advantage of their position. “The Flag has been stolen” follows the story of soldier Neghină, a young nonconformist who is about to get discharged but instead is put in solitary as the main suspect.
Even though this particular subject has already been treated by different filmmakers, The Flag has been stolen presents a different side of communism that only a few know, the action taking place at a military unit. The film is of interest not only the ex-communist countries in which people want to learn more about this topic but also to the people who want something else, an enjoyable historical film, where reality in that time is presented in an amusing way. The age category they aim for is “over 16”.
The whole crew is made up of young filmmakers, recent graduates, who want to make a name for themselves and this project is the perfect chance.

In the creator’s own words: I have started this crowd-funding campaign because I find the subject presented here to be of interest not only to me but to the public eye as it presents a different side of communism. The script is delightful, presenting the Romanian army during the last years of this period. It is a combination of drama, comedy, and elements of the absurd.
With this film, we want to make something different than what was made in Romania in recent years. We want to bring to the public a more complex project, a historical narrative film, one that combines drama with comedy and elements of the absurd. It has authentic characters and entrancing lines.
As a director, I have won several awards and nominations for my last two short films (The Cave of Masks and The Lake) in European countries (Premios Latino, Barcelona Planet Film Festival, IPSOS Short Film Breaks) as well as in the USA (Los Angeles CineFest, Texas Ultimate Shorts, Women’s Only Entertainment Film Festival), Mexic (Post-Mortem) and India (Short of the Month).
